Gerry started painting at a very early age and as she states herself “It’s all I’ve ever wanted to do”. She proudly produced her first oil painting at the age of thirteen, with a set of oils given as a Christmas gift by her parents. She pursued this compulsion for art throughout her education; T.O.P art at RMIT, followed by a year of Graphic Design. However painting was first and foremost in her mind and this culminated in the completion of a degree in fine Art at R.M.I.T.
Gerry continued to paint throughout the following years and had two exhibitions and a number of commissions. She also produced a series of art cards sold at various boutique outlets throughout Melbourne. Her work is held here in private collections and overseas, notably the U.S.A., and has also featured in the Age Newspaper and the Caulfield, Frankston and Mornington Leader.
Gerry also taught linocut printmaking, her speciality, to adult students at Beaumaris Art centre., while completing a diploma of education at La Trobe University
Her subjects vary from bright still life and expressive landscapes to swirling full bodied seascapes. Notably all show a love of movement and intense colour.
”….. her works nourish and inspire the viewer with their warmth and powerful composition as she uses colour and line to feed the soul” (curator, Glen Eira Gallery).
In December 2007, she held a very successful exhibition at Manyung Gallery, and was a semi finalist for the “Signature of M “Melbourne Art Competition, one of Australia’s richest art competitions to date, focusing on crating a lasting and memorable image of Melbourne.
In 2008 she continues to paint and print her linocuts, full time in her studio in Mt Eliza.
